The first Zavvi store opened on London’s Tottenham Court Road in 1992. It operated as a small video rental shop with a limited selection of new releases and classic films. The original Zavvi team consisted of Stuart Fenton (director of the film rental company Video Arc), David McCallum (a cinema technician) and two part-time employees.
In 1994, the company opened its second store on Oxford Street in London. This location became home to the Zavvi Exclusive section, which stocked only the rarest, most sought-after titles from both new and classic films. In 1997, Zavvi moved to its current headquarters on Shaftesbury Avenue in central London.
