Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is a national flag carrier airline headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The airline was founded on 16 September 1963 as Malayan Airways Limited and started operations with two Boeing 707 jetliners. Since its establishment, MAS has become one of the largest airlines in the world, serving more than 650 destinations in more than 100 countries. Malaysian Airlines Fleet
Malaysia Airlines is one of the oldest airlines in the world, with its origins dating back to 1946. The airline served its first commercial flight on July 1st of that year, and has since operated continuously, with a few brief interruptions, to this day. Malaysia Airlines operates an extensive domestic and international network, connecting over 100 destinations in over 30 countries. The airline's fleet consists of a total of 87 aircraft (66 passenger airplanes and 29 cargo airplanes).
The carrier's history can be divided into five periods: pre-independence (1946-1957), early post-independence (1957-1970), golden era (1970-1988), restructuring period (1989-1996), and post-restructuring period (1997 onwards). Throughout these years, Malaysian Airlines consistently ranked among the top airlines in the world, achieving many accolades including having the world's largest passenger fleet by 1990 and being named Asia Pacific Airlines of the Year six times between 1973 and 1988. However, during the early 1990s Malaysia Airlines went through a significant restructuring process which led to decreased profitability. The airline has since returned to profitability and continues to operate successfully today.

Malaysia Airlines is a national airline headquartered in Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia. Operated by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), it is the flagship carrier of MAS Group. Malaysia Airlines was founded on 31 August 1957 as Malayan Airways Limited. The airline became a public company on 12 July 1987. In March 1998, Malaysian Airlines commenced international flights from Kuala Lumpur to cities in Europe and the Middle East. In June 1999, Malaysian Airlines commenced flights to North America from Kuala Lumpur with service to Toronto and Vancouver. In November 2010, Turkish Airlines became the first international carrier to fly into Kuala Lumpur International Airport using the new Terminal 3 facility which opened in September 2009. The airline has since announced plans to commence flights between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing in 2013 and Los Angeles in 2014.
The Malaysian Airline's aircraft liveries have always been colourful and distinctive - from its early turboprop planes sporting blue and white stripes painted on their wings, to its more recent designs incorporating vibrant tropical colours and intricate traditional Islamic motifs. Today, Malaysia Airlines' livery remains one of the most recognisable worldwide, with an iconic "batwing" logo that extends down both sides of each aircraft's fuselage (the only airline logo featuring this feature).
